Measurement Preferences

Choose the measurement style that feels most natural for the way you cook. Mise It can convert measurements during recipe import whenever possible, while still letting you choose the best option for each recipe.

Why Measurement Preferences Matter

Recipes come from all over the world, and they do not all use the same measurement system. Some use cups and teaspoons, others use grams and millilitres, and temperatures may appear in Celsius or Fahrenheit.

Measurement Preferences help Mise It present recipes in a format that feels familiar to you.

Metric

Choose Metric if you prefer measurements such as:

  • grams (g)
  • kilograms (kg)
  • millilitres (mL)
  • litres (L)
  • Celsius (°C)

Metric is commonly used throughout most of the world and is especially helpful for precise baking and cooking.

Imperial

Choose Imperial if you prefer measurements such as:

  • cups
  • tablespoons
  • teaspoons
  • ounces
  • pounds
  • Fahrenheit (°F)

Imperial measurements are common in many North American recipes and feel familiar to many home cooks.

Canadian Hybrid

Many Canadian home cooks naturally use a mix of metric and imperial measurements.

For example, meat is often purchased by weight in grams or kilograms, while everyday cooking still commonly uses cups, tablespoons, and teaspoons.

Canadian Hybrid gives you the best of both worlds by using metric where Canadians commonly expect it, while keeping familiar kitchen measurements for everyday cooking.

During Recipe Import

Whenever you import a recipe, you can still choose how that recipe should be converted.

Even if you have a default measurement preference, you can change the measurement option on the import screen before importing that recipe.

The option you choose will be saved with that recipe.

You Can Change It Again for the Next Recipe

Your measurement choice is flexible. The setting you choose for one recipe does not lock you into that same option forever.

Example

Use Metric for a European baking recipe.

Example

Use Canadian Hybrid for a weeknight dinner with meat, cups, and Fahrenheit.

When you import your next recipe, you can choose the measurement style that makes the most sense for that recipe.

When Preferences Are Used

Your measurement preferences may be used when you:

  • Import a recipe from a URL
  • Paste a recipe manually
  • View recipes in Your Kitchen
  • Create a Make-A-Meal™

Mise It applies conversions whenever possible while keeping recipes accurate and easy to cook.

Accuracy Comes First

Not every measurement should be converted. Some specialty ingredients, package sizes, or recipe-specific instructions are best left as written.

Mise It prioritizes recipe accuracy over unnecessary conversions.

Tip

Do not worry about choosing the perfect measurement system. You can select a different option every time you import a recipe, and your choice for that recipe will be saved. For many Canadian users, Canadian Hybrid may feel the most natural for everyday cooking.
