Editing an Imported Recipe

Mise It uses AI to organize recipes into Shop It, Mise It, and Make It. AI can save you time, but recipes are messy. Always review your imported recipe and make small edits if something landed in the wrong place.

Import Once. Review Once. Cook Confidently Later.

Every recipe website is different. Some hide prep instructions inside ingredient lists, some mix cooking tips with ingredients, and some include extra notes or commentary before the recipe begins.

Mise It does its best to organize everything for you, but editing lets you perfect the recipe so it works exactly the way you want.

What You Can Edit

The Edit screen is divided into four tabs: Overview, Shop It, Mise It, and Make It.

  • Edit the recipe title, servings, time, cuisine, source, notes, and photo.
  • Fix ingredient quantities, units, and names.
  • Move prep work into Mise It.
  • Move cooking actions into Make It.
  • Add missing steps or remove extra text.
  • Reorder items so the recipe flows better.

Overview

The Overview tab contains the recipe's basic information. Use this section to clean up the recipe title, adjust servings, confirm total time, choose cuisine type, assign a Collection, add notes, and review the source URL.

This is also where you can update the recipe photo. Tap the camera icon to upload or replace the image. Many users like adding their own finished meal photo after cooking.

Shop It

Shop It is your grocery list. Review every ingredient before saving so your shopping list is accurate.

You can:

  • Edit quantities
  • Correct measurement units
  • Rename ingredients
  • Add missing ingredients
  • Delete ingredients that do not belong
  • Reorder ingredients by dragging them

Sometimes AI may not recognize a quantity or unit from the original recipe. This is usually a quick fix and helps keep your grocery list reliable.

Mise It

Mise It is where your preparation happens before cooking begins. It is pronounced “meez,” like cheese.

This is the perfect place to move prep instructions that were hidden inside the ingredient list.

Instead of only this

1 onion, finely diced

Make it clearer

Shop It: 1 onion
Mise It: Dice the onion.

You can:

  • Create or rename prep groups
  • Add new prep steps
  • Move steps between groups
  • Reorder prep steps
  • Delete unnecessary prep steps

Make It

Make It is your cooking workflow. This is where the actual cooking steps belong.

You can:

  • Reorder cooking steps
  • Add missing instructions
  • Delete unnecessary instructions
  • Create additional cooking groups
  • Improve wording
  • Adjust the order to match how you actually cook

If AI places a step in the wrong location, move it where it belongs. A simple rule: prep belongs in Mise It, cooking belongs in Make It.

Common Things to Check After Import

  • Did the title import correctly?
  • Are all ingredients listed?
  • Did any prep instructions stay buried in the ingredient list?
  • Are cooking steps in the correct order?
  • Did any blog notes or unrelated text get included?
  • Are servings and total time correct?
  • Is the measurement format right for this recipe?

Delete a Recipe

If an import did not turn out the way you expected, you can delete the recipe from your Kitchen.

Delete recipe confirmation screen

Deleting a recipe permanently removes it from your Kitchen. This cannot be undone, so only delete a recipe when you are sure you no longer need it.

Why Reviewing Matters

Once a recipe is cleaned up, it becomes more useful every time you cook it. You can reuse it from your Kitchen, add it to Collections, or combine it into future Make-A-Meals™.

A few minutes of review now can save time every time you cook that recipe later.

Tip

AI is helpful, not perfect. Mise It gets you most of the way there, and the Edit screen lets you make the final recipe your own.
